I had my first men's game as a sports trainer (read: waterboy) tonight for the GWS reserves. I have been working as a massage therapist for the Giants since 2012 but have only started the trainer role this season. Up until tonight I have worked as a trainer at training session and one of the women's games (that was too rainy to take any photos). It was great to kick back after the reserve game and watch the first team win the battle of the bridge! Definitely a much needed distraction as I am missing the Australian Ultimate (frisbee) Championships up on the gold coast this weekend.

3 x 4 170kg followed by 3 x 10 120kg. I've had a non-lifting related back issue the last couple of weeks. Nice to get back into lifting some heavy stuff again today. Definitely makes my back feel better when I do. Numbers are down on where I was a month or so ago but that's ok, time to build back up again.
After an exciting (and stressful) deadlifting event, @australianstrengthcoach ended up 2nd with a total of 900kg. What a day! Great to be there with a massive @basegym contingent supporting. Great job Bas!

Some pretty serious vibes going on at The Arnolds in Melbourne as my client @wright_performance (95kg) hits a 310kg squat in front of The Governator. Going to be a big day watching him and @australianstrengthcoach (110kg) going for the Pro Raw 9 titles.
4 x 2 180kg. Went for a fifth set but only got 1 rep. It has been a slow getting back to lifting heavy after the triathlon. Had a deload week last week as I pulled up sore and a little sick after the race. Last heavy conventional session today before going back to snatch grip deficit deadlifts next week to build up a strong base to get into the next few months of training. First rep was a little wonky, hence the confused look to the left. Hot tip - if you are using straps, make sure you tension both sides evenly otherwise ugly reps like this will happen. Only powerlifting as preparation for a sprint triathlon was a terrible idea but the one place it paid off was riding up hills. I was useless on the flat due to my lack of fitness but would overtake 10 or so people per hill. Doesn't make it a good idea but it was nice to have a redeeming factor as I spent the rest of of the race hurting.
Start and end of the swim leg on Sunday. I've had a classic love hate relationship with learning to swim laps since August last year. Having not trained swimming much at all in the last 4 months due to shoulder injuries and getting well into powerlifting I was definitely most worried about the swim leg of the triathlon. I had never done open water swimming or swam in a group before Sunday. Starting the race in a big pack was pretty stressful as you get kicked and grabbed as everyone tries to gain position. This quickly became a non-issue for me as I was so far behind everyone else by 50m that I had plenty of room to myself. Swimming is always such a mind game for me, if I'm feeling happy and relaxed it can be thoroughly enjoyable but I definitely didn't feel that way during this race and was totally overthinking every aspect of it. On the second lap around the course I decided to start singing songs in my head to try and stop focusing on how hard everything was. It was so effective! I still sucked at swimming but the process then felt automated and I felt like I could keep going somewhat indefinitely. I'm terrible with song lyrics so before I attempt longer distances I might need to learn some more songs.. Open to suggestions!
Competed in my first ever (sprint distance) triathlon today with a these guys. It was really hard! Was feeling like I'd never do one again when I finished but then the endorohin release happened and the runners high made me reconsider.. Just definitely not off 3 months of only powerlifting. Pretty happy with my time of 1:25:02 placing me third in my category - the Race Ya Mates (read: cruisy beginner) category. Ended up 49th overall in the run which was unexpected. Ocean swimming was extremely challenging and left me cramping.. everywhere. The ride was great fun until I got my laces caught in the peddle and had to stop and untie myself. Race aside, it was a fun little getaway with some great mates.
The long rest periods of powerlifting are conducive to getting your uni readings done.
5 x 2 140kg. While all my Ultimate Frisbee friends are competing at Regionals in Canberra this weekend, I'm in the gym squatting a pb. I have somewhat mixed feelings about not being there. I always enjoy getting away with my team @benchultimate and seeing the Ultimate community. But, I felt happy to be missing this weekend as I feel like I'm making real progress with how my body performs and feels. It's making me excited to get back into playing again half way through year for the mixed nationals season.

3 x 1 100kg. I haven't benched 100kg since August 2015 when I was benching 4 days a week while waiting for a hamstring tear to heal. Since then I haven't been anywhere near that weight as it's not a hugely important lift for Ultimate Frisbee. I have been slowly building up since injuring both shoulders at nationals in November last year and my shoulders are feeling great.
